Bhagalpur, also known as silk city, is one of the nine weaving clusters in Bihar under the Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Program of the government of India. Within Bhagalpur there are several clusters each with their own niche products. While Hussainbad is famous for its “matka silk”, Nathnagar, Champanagar and Kharik Bazaar clusters weave both silk and cotton fabric.
The dupatta featured here is made of cotton and woven in the distinctive V-shaped weaving pattern known as herringbone weave as it resembles a herring fish’s bone structure.
