Samir-raan features actual wooden window frames that have been salvaged from old homes in Northern Karnataka. The northern part of Karnataka is a semi-dry region experiencing high temperatures and very less rainfall. Homes built during those times had to have built-in mechanisms to cool down the house. Houses were built in stone to maintain a lower temperature inside the home. Tiny wooden window frames would be placed on the upper half of the walls. The rising hot air in the house would waft out of the window while letting in the cooler air from outdoors. The windows were small enough to keep the hot sunshine out but let the cool breeze through. The placement of the windows was designed to create a wind tunnel effect thereby allowing for plenty of cross ventilation.
The window frame can be used as a wall hanging or set as a photo or mirror frame.
