Used for street theatre and performances in North Bengal.
These vintage sarangis are from Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur and Naxalbari in West Bengal. Masks and instrumental bases are used in a ritual performances called Gamira and street theater performances known as Jatra. Jatra, a form of street theatre, originated in Bengal in the 15th century. Music is the main element of Jatra. Musicians sit in two groups facing each other and playing classical, semi-classical and folk music.
