Phad Painting - Krishna with Cows, Ink on silk. Rectangle 20" x 10".

Phad painting, a form of folk painting that originated in the princely state of Shahpura, is typically done on a scroll or phad in a panel format. The narratives of the folk deities of Rajasthan are depicted on them or legends of erstwhile local rulers.

This painting depicts the most common form of Krishna in Indian art and that is in his role as a cowherd boy. Cows as depicted in this painting are greatly respected animals in Hinduism and Indian culture.
